High Quality and Lots of Variety

This trip has been characterized by high quality fun-sized waves and lots of choices. Almost every wave in the area has been surfed this week at head high or slightly overhead. Bankvaults, Nipussi, 4-Bobs, Rifles, Hideaways, Last Resort, Pit Stops, A-Frames, Beng Beng, and Burger World. Kandui Resorts never disappoints. Great crew.  Only one injury in the group. Shallow fin slice to a head. Lucky. Here's a couple shots I took of Chis and Jamie at Burger World yesterday.

Travel team is Mike and Chris Ryan and Jamie Randall.  Boys had head high to slightly overhead waves for first day and a half into trip. Lots of variety: Four Bobs, Beng Beng, and Rifles. Rainy and windy today and at end of last swell. More to come with swell slowly building into the real deal by weekend. Surf photos to come...

Finally arrived

After grueling 4 flights (Orlando, LAX, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Padang Padang) followed by a 4 hour boat ride across the Java Straight over 2 days,  we arrived at Kandui with a small but fun swell. Surfed 5+ hours from noon 'till dark. Chris and Mike caught Rifles in the afternoon with the first board casualty. Chris snapped board 1 at Rifles on the first wave. This is home for the next 11 days. Heading to Last resort and Rifles this morning.

Finally made board quiver decision. Leave for airport in 2 hours. Going to the shorter side with a 5'9" Slater Omni and 2 Hadenshapes Shred Sled Kings (5'11" and 6'2"). Leaving the 6'8" at home.

Past Trips Never Felt This Difficult...

Lots of folks to thank for making this 2017 SCST trip possible this year. Most of all my amazing staff at the IRLNEP.  Without the dedicated team of Frank Sakuma and Kathy Hill, a long work absence would not be feasible.  I know the IRLNEP is in good hands.

Also thanks to my recent friend and trainer, Nick Weiss from New Smyrna Beach, FL.  Check out http://www.train2travel.net/. Even with limited time (and old age), Nick designed a training program that has me feeling more prepared than I could have hoped for with my demanding business schedule.

But most of all - many thanks to Mike Ryan, my surf wing man, for the continuing inspiration to go. Geez, he and Gayle rode 40 miles on bikes over the weekend. And of course, the Long Doggers Indialantic crew - you keep me inspired and fully hydrated. By the end of the week, I'll see if I can still surf.  Cheers!
